Creative Taupo, formerly the Taupo Community Arts Council, has been around for many years. It was designated a community arts provider under the Arts Board of the Arts Council of New Zealand, Toi Aotearoa. (Creative New Zealand)
Creative Taupo is a voluntary organisation with ten members. Subject to guidelines set and rules made by the Arts Board it can regulate its own procedures. Creative Taupo receives some administrative support from the Taupo District Council.
Creative Taupo supports the idea that everyone in the community has the right to participate in artistic and cultural activities that are relevant to them and arise from, and communicate their own needs, desires and experiences.
Creative Taupo tries to facilitate or assist in providing euqal access for everyone in the community to the resources, advice, support and finance needed to enable their artistic and cultural expressions to become a reality.
Creative Taupo can determine its own priorities, objectives and processes in arts and cultural development.
Creative Taupo receives funding from the Taupo District Council and Creative New Zealand. The funds received are then allocated, according to guidelines, to groups and individuals who apply in funding rounds during May and October.
Members for Creative Taupo are elected at an annual general meeting. The Taupo District Council also appoints three members. The current chairman is Andrew Welch and the minute secretary is the Taupo District Council Community Support Manager, Carole Parker.
