Young Achievers are divided into three age groups
Years 7 & 8 Years 9 to 11 Years 12 & 13
CATEGORIES
Sporting: For outstanding sporting efforts
Arts: For outstanding effort in the arts including performing arts visual arts and cultural activities (e.g. kapa haka, harakeke). This category also includes those people coaching, working behind the scenes, directing, producing, etc.
Academic: For outstanding academic success
Leadership: For outstanding efforts in a leadership role, this could include mentoring, captaining a team, as a church leader, as a school prefect, monitor or team leader, or anyone who is looked up to as a role model in some way.
Youth Talent Quest
Taupo Youth project holds a Youth Talent Quest every year in October. Young people aged between 8 and 18 are welcome to perform as a solo duo or group in the categories listed below;
Shirley's Shoes Theatre: junior solo, senior solo, junior group and senior group
Blue Light ventures Instrumental: junior solo, senior solo, junior group, senior group
Caf for youth health Vocal: junior solo, junior group, senior solo, senior group
Taupo youth project dance: junior solo, junior group, senior solo, senior group
Blue Light Ventures Instrumental: Senior group/band, junior group/band

Arts scholarships
Creative Taupo the Community Arts Council of the Taupo District holds a youth arts scholarship every year in conjunction with the Youth talent Quest. There are two scholarships open to young people under the age of 18. Each year there is $1000 for both the performing and the visual art category winners. Visual entrants need to bring along work they have completed in the 12 months prior to the scholarship, and performing entrants need to perform 2 contrasting pieces.

Youth Arts Centre
The Unison Youth Arts Centre is situated in Richmond Heights Taupo, and is a venue for youth arts activities, it is managed by the Taupo District Council, and any bookings can be taken through Carole Parker 376 0899. The venue is currently used by dance groups and the Taupo School of Music.
Big Music Day
Annually Taupo School of Music holds a big music day at the Great Lake Centre, where young musicians come together for the day and work with a well known conductor. It is a fun day where the level of performance changes greatly with the help of the conductor, and by the end of the day a performance for public is held.
